As gardeners, we all want to do our bit to help look after the environment, whether that be making our own compost or minimising single-use plastic.
Based in Scotland, Ocean Plastic Pots make sustainable plant pots from 100% recycled rope and fishing net – diverting waste from our seas and landfills, and turning it into something beautiful. Ocean Plastic Pots were winners of the RHS Sustainable Garden Product of the Year Award at RHS Chelsea in 2021 and finalists again in 2022.
Ally Mitchell, a deep sea diver, founded the company after salvaging a ship filled with plastic off the West Coast of Scotland during lockdown. In his words, ‘As a diver I was sad to see so much rope and net on the beaches I loved and wanted to do something to make a difference’.
Today the company’s motto – ‘Grow Awareness of Plastic Pollution’ – can be found on the base of every one of their plant pots.
